Theodoros Stamos was an abstract expressionist and part of the group of painters known as the Irascibles, which included Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko.Stamos was commissioned to produce the poster in 1964 by the American Federation of Arts for the List Art Poster program, an initiative designed to circulate high-quality reproductions of modern and contemporary art to the public through posters touting cultural events throughout the country.
