Takeshi Nii (1929-2014) was a Japanese industrial designer known for his innovative and influential furniture designs. He was born on February 2, 1929, in Tokyo, Japan, and his career in design began during the mid-20th century. Takeshi Nii's work was significant in shaping the modern furniture landscape, particularly in Japan. One of his most famous and enduring creations is the "NY Chair" (Nychair), which was first introduced in 1958. The NY Chair was a folding lounge chair that combined practicality with sleek, minimalist aesthetics. Its smart, compact design made it popular for small living spaces, and its timeless style helped it gain a devoted following over the years. Takeshi Nii's furniture designs often incorporated folding mechanisms, which allowed for easy storage and portability.
